church  state

Are we asking for God's judgment?

Ok, lets see if there is any evidence of the failure of the church (especially the leaders).  This page excerpts portions of recent studies and polls by Gallup and Barna groups.  No more psychology.  No more marketing plans.  Scripture, without dilution, is sufficient and necessary.  Trying to add new enlightenments and packaging, disables God's perfect directions to us and cripples our impact.  Are we really more insightful than God?  If we are, then success of our current approach to save others will be reflected in answers below.  We should have known better.

Sobering, isn't it?

The following statistics dramatically serve to demonstrate the reality of our cultural slide and the degree and significance of the Church’s diminishing influence:

· 85% of Americans represent themselves as "Christians" (90% in 1996).

· 72% have formal membership in churches, synagogues, or temples

· 40% attend regularly (almost weekly), 31% in 1996.

· Regular Sunday school attendance dropped from 23% in 1991 to 19% in
  1998(17% in 1996).

· 67% reject belief that absolute truth exists.

· 68% believe that all religions are equally valid and that their faithful adherents
will make it to heaven or its equivalent.

· 60% believe that people in all religions pray to the same God.

· 30% believe in reincarnation, up from 25% in 1992.

· 36% read horoscopes regularly and 26% believe that they are scientifically
  accurate.

· 20% identify themselves as New Age practitioners.

· 34% believe in a New Age form of God.

· Adult atheist male=5%, female 2%, teenagers 7%.

· 70 % of Americans have a high view of the Bible.

· 11% claim to be conscious atheists or agnostics (cf.8% in 1992).

· 31% are unchurched ((~60 million), cf. 27% in 1997; 20% in the South, 1:5
  ratio.

· 39% of Baby Busters are unchurched (cf. 31% in 1997).

· 40% of those 18-29 are unchurched.

Born Again Christians

· 40% of Americans make this claim.

· Yet 37% of them reject the infallibility of the Bible.

· 41% believe in pluralism (Cf. 68% of population).

· 53% reject the belief in holding absolute truth (cf. 67% nationally).

· 58% said they definitely would not attend a weekly Bible study.

· 28% believe that Jesus sinned.

· 35% deny Jesus raised from the dead (cf. 39% general population).

· 7% are solid evangelicals (1998), down from 8% (1996), and 12% in 1992.

· 27% have been divorced.

· 23% buy a lottery ticket in a typical week.

· 6% define success in relation to spirituality.

· Only 66% say they are "absolutely committed" to the Christian faith.

· 32% said that they have never experienced God’s presence.

· 50% believe Satan is only a symbol of evil rather than a real being (ef. 62%
  national).

· 55% believe the Holy Spirit is only a symbol of God’s presence and not a
  living being (ct 61% nationally).

· 68% of "born-again" Christians believe evangelism is a high priority for the
church, yet only 1% report that they are personally involved in evangelism.

The findings indicate that among college students 80 percent consider religion important in their lives, and 55 percent attended worship services once or more during the month preceding the survey; 72 percent had attended worship services in the past six months. About half said that they read the Bible at least occasionally. Only 2.3 percent called themselves atheists.

America Still a Very Religious Nation
Although there has always been an interesting and heated debate over the place of religion in government and the lives of public officials, one fact is undisputed -- Americans are generally quite religious. In a poll conducted August 24-27, 2000, 68% of the public said that they were a member of a church or synagogue. The number of people who are members of churches or synagogues has not varied much in the 65 years that Gallup has been asking this question -- ranging from a high of 76% in 1947 to a low of 64% in 1996. Additionally,

Some comments regarding the Gallup poll:

The above figures indicate that we have a population of individuals who believe that they will be ok if they maintain a little 'religiosity', whether or not the god they supposedly worship is the Jehovah of the Bible!  Is this the evidence of our effectiveness in reaching our neighbors?  AREN'T WE AT BLAME FOR NOT REACHING THEM?  Christian Leaders-  Is it not true that one of the Ten Commandments is "Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy"?  Yes, judgment is needed.  Did not Christ say:   John 14: 15 " If you love me , you will obey what I command.

If we look at just those who are the 46%, how many will be condemned?  How many more in the 86% range?

The reason 57% say it is important and 31% say it is somewhat important and folks aren't in church is because we have given them no reason to believe what we say happens to be true.  We compromise on a small Biblical point and then all other scripture becomes fair game for similar compromises.  Is this what God wants from His people?

Whoa!  Baby!  Wake up Christian LEADERS!

These are troubling figures.  If 48% really pay more attention to God and religious teachings, what are you teaching them, the wrong stuff?  They don't care (the leaders are supposed to help instill the fear of God into the rest of us) when we violate the Ten Commandments as mentioned above (and is evident in the high divorce rates, etc).

If 48% say they care what they are taught--then that means they aren't hearing the right stuff!!!  Even the 45% includes many who are lost.  Why did they choose to discount the Bible's teaching?   Is it because no one has pointed out to them that they are perishing???  Isn't that what God mandated for us to do?

This should be no surprise.

We declare progress in building campaigns.  We pat each other on the back.  We rise above any criticism.  Look where it has taken us.  See what the Lord says!

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Gee, maybe we got it wrong.

Well, this is pretty self-evident.  We must declare the inerrancy of God's Word, we must show evidence this is true through incredible scriptural prophecy being specifically fulfilled, and we must declare God's way to heaven as the only way.

79% of people believe in judgment, implying they believe they will be judged favorably.   On Judgment Day, how many will be disappointed and say they didn't get the right teaching?  They still will be responsible since they had access to Bibles.   How much punishment (or lack of rewards) should we incur due to our failures at communicating these truths to them?

Fully 75% show some interest in deepening their understanding!  Why not teach them the right stuff?  Why do we have pseudopsychology lessons instead of the meat found in the scriptures?

People have a deep hunger for understanding God.  This is great evidence that the leaders have failed to indicate to the people the truth in the Word, especially the truth of the Old Testament.

If people would hear the truth and fear the God of the Bible, there would be a movement for greater understanding of this material and subsequent salvation of many.

Our God sees this.  He sees the Christian 'leaders' using approaches to reach the lost that were never ordained in His Word.

He sees the leader's failures, not due to an increase in evil overwhelming us but because of the loss of appropriate teaching.   Any compromise of His Word is an assault on Him who loves us.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Interesting how the removal of school prayer in 1963 reflects a loss of influence by religion.  Today's 'increasing influence' may reflect other religions with New Age, etc.

We are still a long way from the 1950's and even our founder's embracing the Christian religion completely to guide the formation of a new government.

Well, what should be asked is - why don't people think they should be a member of the church?

Is it because of the false preaching on an artificial form of "love" we mistakenly attribute to an Almighty God?  Do Christian leaders warn of the wrath of God?  Do leaders tell others of the necessity to follow Biblical commands, including being part of the body of Christ and remember the Sabbath?

No.

The voices we hear teach a foreign sort of love - a non-Biblical 'love' that says we don't need to follow everything written in the scriptures and God will cut us some slack.  Therefore, we don't really need to be part of a church.  We don't really need to worry about pleasing Him.  He loves us.  (Therefore we perish)

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ` I never knew you . Away from me, you evildoers!'

Did you, yourself, happen to attend church or synagogue in the last seven days, or not?

Abortion Issues

Thinking about how the abortion issue might affect your vote for major offices, would you: only vote for a candidate who shares your views on abortion or consider a candidate's position on abortion as just one of many important factors? [ROTATED]

Candidate must share views One of many important factors Not a major issue Header

Why do we not hear an outcry?  Why are we comfortably reserved to compromise on this 'issue'?  Who else but the pulpits should be teaching of our impending judgment for the spilling of 'innocent blood'?

Psalms 106:36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. 38 They shed innocent blood , the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood . 39 They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves. 40 Therefore the LORD was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance. 41 He handed them over to the nations, and their foes ruled over them. 42 Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power.

Our idols are our love of pleasure and finances.  We care not for life but we care for comfort.  Therefore God will judge us according to our lack of repentance and seeking Him.

Some people say that abortion is an act of murder, while other people disagree with this.  What is your view -- do you think abortion is an act of murder or don't you feel this way?

Before we pat ourselves on the backs, remember people are exposed to ultrasound evidence of life when they have a pregnancy.  The technologic advances clearly show people what we should have been hearing all along.  The 'partial birth abortion' publicity also has helped.

We need to have a constant reminder of the evil in this procedure - very much like we need to often hear the fear of God .
