Erwin Lutzer's book Hitler's Cross says: "The church made peace with an enemy with which it should have been at war. Called to warn and protect, it tolerated, then saluted, then submitted." The churches today have a great fear of the Internal Revenue Service and the possibility of a costly audit or loss of the 'tax exempt' status. There certainly are some rules the government rightly or wrongly attaches to this label. Worse yet, the pulpits have become silent when they were commissioned by Almighty God to point out errors. Some of the beliefs of what can and cannot be said may be erroneous. If this is the case, please take a look at a copy of an email from "The Pro-Life Infonet" that outlines the IRS regulations. Whatever the case, do not weaken your voice in fear of your government or your church members. God and they need your voice to not waver. Of the 53 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 27 had seminary degrees. The Minutemen at Lexington and Concord were led by a pastor and his church's deacons he enlisted in a church service. Thank goodness there was no 501c3 status muzzling his words! God's work is paramount. Speaking against political evil is part of our expected role as seen with our founding fathers. It didn't silence John the Baptist, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, or countless others. This tax-exempt status has definitely affected your message! If these rules have made you think twice about saying something, it has affected your delivery, likely to the messages' detriment. Choose your god. Feed your sheep. Nothing is more important. If the concern is the acceptance of your church members, again, consider who it is you really serve. God deserves nothing less. He expects nothing less from one who has been given much. Make the delivery Biblical based and hold up the Word! Leave the results to God. Christians want to hear what is consistent with their own consciences and consistent with what their Bibles teach. When you compromise, they see the error and discount your message in other areas. Patriots would not compromise their Christian convictions.
