Facts and things that arise -  October thru December 1999

December 19, 1999

It has been some time since the last update with much occurring in the interim.  Governor G.W. Bush has electrified the media with his answer in the Iowa debate indicating Jesus Christ having a great influence in His life.   Praise God.  Please review the Open letter to Gov. Bush on this site.

The mainstream media just doesn't get it.  They continue to discuss how the debates should be limited to 2 or 3 front runners, willfully forgetting that before their love affair with Sen.John McCain, he would not have been included.  It is wonderful to see the discussions shift to more important issues.

We all owe a debt to Ambassador Alan Keyes who has made these issues foremost in the debates, where they belong.  Why would we vote- (at http://vote.com and other post-debate polls, indicating Dr. Keyes has won each handily, walking away with nearly 50% of the 40,000-50,000 votes in each) - for him and yet not consider him a 'viable' candidate?  WE MUST.  HIS VISION IS CLEAR.

Gary Bauer is wonderful, and possibly improving in his speech (he has never waffled on the moral issues).  He has been making excellent points and forcing G.W. Bush to discuss issues he would rather not (since he is wrong, and may know it).

Steve Forbes continues to not waffle on the Christian values.  Thank You.

Orrin Hatch wants us to trust him.  He is quick to say "Amen" but has not taken the lead on the moral issues.

November 22, 1999  Interesting weekend

G.W. Bush gave a prepared speech on Friday, 11/19, regarding foreign affairs.  He favors MFN for China and barely mentioned those Christians being persecuted, but he didn't completely forget them.   Unfortunately, MFN and helping sponsor China into the World Trade Organization may hurt our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Arizona Republicans hosted a debate, 4 presidential candidates showed up.  McCain, Hatch, Forbes and Keyes.  Alan Keyes was incredible, outstanding.  He pointed his finger at the audience and said that they (we) need to wake up, our biggest problem in America is our moral crisis.  He also said we were galloping toward Gomorrah, not slouching toward Gomorrah.  The audience who was just told to straighten up appreciated Keyes' truth.  They cheered wildly.   He is wise enough to put first things first.  Who else will join him?   The message was delivered in a clear, concise manner.

McCain reiterated that he will not have a litmus test for judges, Hatch was similar.   Forbes makes it clear that any judges must pass a litmus test.

Now is the time to reform politics in America.  If Christians will vote to please God, we all win.  Vote for the candidate who best stands for God's values, not diluted reasoning.

Pat Buchanan officially entered the Reform Party and will seek their nomination.  Donald Trump declared the Reform   Party too.  Pat needs to put God first (ahead of NAFTA and other less important issues - not that other issues do not count, but that as Christians we first need to please God.  Come on Pat, make it clear that moral issues are most important).  Maybe that approach could even teach Donald Trump a lesson.

October 20, 1999 -  Elizabeth Dole withdrew.

October 9, 1999

It was an interesting week.  We started out with the Christian Coalition's Washington meeting where their leadership were falling all over themselves to endorse a G.W. Bush for president.  Within a few days, G.W. Bush distanced himself from the Christian, moral concerns:

``Too often, on social issues, my party has painted an image of America slouching toward Gomorrah,'' Bush,
who has touted his self-described ``compassionate conservatism'' on previous campaign stops around the
country, said in a speech to the Manhattan Institute.

This was entirely predictable.  The Wall Street Journal discussed the Clinton-like, political character of Bush in an article a year ago.  It is worth reviewing today.  It is blatantly political but there is some truth in the pages.  According to the article, if you like Clinton, you will like Bush.  It also points out Bush's distancing from the moral issues.

G.W. Bush is using "triangulation", borrowed from Clinton and Dick Morris to become more "centrist" on the moral issues, counting on keeping enough Christians' votes to become elected.  He is concerned about John McCain calling him too conservative and this is a way to show that he can be as liberal as the next guy, taking away the criticism.  This approach denies the need for truth, honor, and putting God's values ahead of personal ambition.  Pat Robertson got what he deserved.   Will he ever learn?  This is a repeat of 4 years ago!

The common argument for voting for Bush is that the next president will likely appoint 3 Supreme Court Judges and we certainly do not want a Democratic president to appoint these individuals.  This argument is flawed, especially in light of this week's statement by Bush.  First, we do not know much of Bush's true stand but what he has told us is that he will not use a 'litmus test' of pro-life to appoint any judges or a running-mate.  Why then, should we think he would do any better than Gore or Bradley???

Trust God to take care of things when you stand firm for His issues.  Don't use our worldly reasoning that has put us where we are today.  Do not trust politics.
