Bob Dole-
- man hand-picked by the Republican leadership (Haley Barber, etal) who was to become the
Presidential nominee (and destined to become so without grass-roots approval and critical
thinking by Christians). The favorite quotes included 'the big tent' and 'only Dole
has a chance at winning against Clinton'.
- moral issues on a back-burner. When given a chance to respond to a pastor's
question during the Presidential debate- October 16, 1998-
| Presidential debate- October 16, 1998 Question asked by Ron Kite, a minister in the audience-
"This great nation has been established by the founding fathers who possessed very
strong Christian beliefs and godly principles. If elected president of the United
States, what could you do to return this nation to these basic principles. And
also, do you feel that the president, the office of the president, has the responsibility
to set the role example to inspire our young people?"
Dole's answer-
"Well, no doubt about it, our founding fathers had a great deal of wisdom.
And in addition to what you mentioned, they also were concerned about this all powerful
central government in Washington, D.C., that would in effect confiscate your
property. So I carry around in my pocket- I can't pull it out, I'd violate the rules
- a copy of the 10th Amendment which says that we ought to return power to the states and
power to the people, the people here. You ought to make more decisions, well a few
of you. Honor, duty, and country - that's what America is all about.
Certainly the president of the United States, the highest office in the world, the most
important office in the world, has the responsibility to young people, as we talked about
earlier, to everyone, by example.
And, as when it comes to public ethics, he has a responsibility. And you have 30
some in your administration who have either left or being investigated or in jail or
whatever and you've got an ethical problem. |
May this question be asked? He was point-blank handed an
opportunity to discuss partial birth abortion that had been vetoed. Where was God in
the answer? He skipped away from a discussion on moral issues. He made a
mistake. He could not please God with that answer. How could Christians please
God by voting for this guy?
- a man who, as Senate Majority leader had never stopped Clinton appointees from federal
judgeships. Each, according to Clinton, passed a 'litmus test' of being
pro-abortion. Is this leadership? Of course not. As Christ said, he
would spit out someone 'lukewarm'. Are we lukewarm too? Christ expects us to
stand firm for God's values. Anything else jeopardizes our relationship with Him.
He is the Bridegroom, the Church is the bride. Those of us who are married
would not like our spouse to choose anyone else over ourselves. In effect, when we
do not do what our Savior asks, we do hurt Him as we choose, basically, another God.
- we have tried this approach for years. This is the idea that we must slow down the
continuing worsening of our government. We have stacks of regulations to control us.
We have no prayer in schools. We have kids killing in schools. And we
ask, why? One reason is because the Doles and others who have been entrusted with
saving us from the Democrats have not done their job. Who is standing for morality?
Sadly, few.
- It is happening again!! The 'big tent' has become the 'big ship' under Jim
Nicholson. The Republican leadership has chosen George Bush, Jr. (a long time ago)
as their candidate. He refuses to put moral issues ahead of other items. He
refuses to fight the battle against abortion. He emulates Bill Clinton's "Third Way". The Republican party, as a
whole, has dropped the moral issue ball. There may still be hope
for the Republicans, but not with Bush, E. Dole, McCain or other flat moral
look-alikes that are lukewarm, at best. Christians
wanting to salvage the Republican party must get involved now, stopping the "big
ship" from cruising over God's concerns in the primaries. Morality First.
Accept no one who compromise God's values, or puts them on the back-burner.
Currently Keyes and Phillips stand firm against the flood (putting God
first). Support your choice of the best! Do not financially support the
"party" or those who compromise.
- A vote for Dole in 1996 was a vote for business as usual and continual moral decline of
our nation. The Republican strategists count those same votes as those who agreed with
their policy. They assume those votes will be easier to attract in the future, as
has happened in this 2000 primary season! All they feel they must do is to hang on
to those voters. Those voters who believed the lie - 'only Dole has a chance to beat
Clinton'. Guess what. Those who voted for Dole wasted their vote, if they
really felt he was not a good candidate. Certainly the Christians were used by the
Republicans with nothing in return. Zero- and our Almighty God is disappointed.
- Why was a vote for Dole wasted?
-
it counted as a vote for business as usual, even though we
see things continue to worsen
-
Christian values were considered not important,
disappointing God in our walk with Him, we lose out on
His blessings for standing firm. Blessings we may not see
clearly.
-
a better candidate was available who strongly embraced
God's principles
-
lost anyway, twice.
1. he lost to Clinton
2. a vote against Dole was a vote that said 'enough of this
garbage' (by voting for Howard Phillips), but this
didn't happen when we failed to stand firm. Christians
lose by voting 'for' compromising, 'business as usual'.
DOLE? BAD CHOICE. TRY AGAIN.
